Osteopathic physicians practise in Germany and are qualified doctors (MDs) with postgraduate training and education in osteopathic medicine.

Osteopathy as a distinct profession is not recognised or regulated in Germany. Instead osteopaths work as 'Heilpratikers'.

However, following a meeting of German Health Ministers in May 2016, there is now support across the 16 federal states to regulate osteopathy. This follows a proposal put forward by Saarland.
