The osteopathic profession is a recognised health profession set out in regulation 1131/2012, regulated by the Icelandic Ministry of Health.
No one can work or call themselves an osteopath (osteopata) in Iceland withoout being registered as such with the Ministry of Health.

The Iceland Osteopathic Association (Osteopatafelag islands) was founded in 2002. Its main purpose is to promote and protect otseopathic interests in Iceland. Today there are only 4 qualified osteopaths in Iceland who are all registered with the Iceland Osteopathic Association. Despite its small size the Association achieved the recognition of osteopathy as a fully registered health profession with the Iceland Ministry of Health.
