In Canada osteopathy is practised by osteopaths and osteopathic physicians.
Osteopathic physicians are fully licensed to practise the full range of medical care and are fully integrated into the Canadian medical system. Regulation and registration is carried out by the provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons and only graduates of American colleges of osteopathic medicine (DO) are eligible to register as osteopathic physicians. There is a national standard if medical practice that allows for reciprocity among the provinces and terriroties. In Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario, only a registered DO is entitled to use the title 'osteopath', 'osteopathic physician' or DO.
The non-physician practice of osteopathy is practised in almost all of the Canadian provinces. For more information, access the provisional association websites available on the websit of the Canadian Federation of Osteopaths (see below)
The title 'osteopath' is protected and controlled, in some provinces, by the respective medical regulatory college for physicians and surgeones.
